A couple members recently found love (outside of Book Club) and are sweetly entrenched in love’s first bloom. I’m not going to name the love afflicted here but if you have attended a meeting lately then you know who was struck with cupid’s arrow.
Many of us attended Kim’s Happiness Workshop on February 26th, and from Kim we learned to be happy from the inside out. Kim demonstrated her teaching skills and her natural leadership skills while reminding us to be true and thoughtful to ourselves and honor our feelings. The Happiness Workshop was the first of its kind for Kim and she packed a full house. I counted over 20 women in attendance and Kim led us all through the workshop; her friendly, warm energy radiating over us so that it was easy to personally identify with one another even though most of us were just meeting for the first time.
On March 4th, Melissa was awarded Teacher of the Year and I was honored to attend the ceremony as her BFF date. She looked positively radiant as she accepted her award for teaching high school math and algebra at Jesse Bethel High School in Vallejo. Teaching high school in Vallejo takes dedication, courage, and skill. Melissa is 100% engaged in her role as teacher and I see her dedication as she interacts with her students in public, when she talks to me about various ways she’s incorporating technology in the classroom, and when she excitedly describes the latest teaching method that she implemented in order to help her struggling students comprehend math. The award ceremony was held at the Elk’s Lodge in Vallejo and their 70’s leather furniture, comfortable bar and huge stone fireplace (no, I didn’t get a picture…dammit to hell!) would make a perfect Book Club meeting location. Now we just need to become Elks!
You may have noticed that my posts have slowed considerably since November. That’s because I am currently engaged in a demanding yet absolutely amazing pro bono consulting assignment for the Taproot Foundation. I am one of a team of four Human Resources professionals and we are at the closing stages of our six month assignment. We started off on shaky ground when we had two members drop out within the first three weeks of our project. We decided to proceed as a reduced team and we poured our blood, sweat and tears into the assignment and I am proud to say that our final product reflects our hard work and dedication. I am thrilled to have stuck with the project and recommend that you research the Taproot Foundation if you are looking for a high level volunteer assignment; they look for individuals that have experience in any of these areas: Strategic HR, Strategy Management, Marketing or IT.
And of course, IT leads me to think of Jenny! Jenny started her own fake blog in order to help trouble shoot issues with the V-Town Book Club blog. She worked on issues I was encountering such as creating a Jump Break, adding a Guest Author, adding an Administrator, and adding a poll. You may have noticed the poll created for Jenny and wondered “WTF?” Well, that was me demonstrating to Jenny that her blog research paid off. Jenny is correct in her response that she is both Sadist and Masochist; masochist because she did all this research for free then sat patiently behind me while I navigated around the blog and internet without using the Google toolbar or hotkeys. She never once sighed heavily at my lack of IT skills but instead accepted it all like the trooper she is. She even took me to dinner after the free lesson and paid the bill!!! Her sadistic side came out to play when she threatened to take the blog hostage after I upgraded her to Administrator status. She is the epitome of that office IT nerd, playing the masochist until she earns our trust and then turning on us at the drop of a hat with her true sadistic nature. Ah Jenny, you have forever won my heart!
Finally, with special thanks to Jenny, if you are interested in co-writing with Kim and I, or you want to contribute your own post then shoot me a comment on FB or comment here and I will add you as a Contributor to the blog.

Angie, you are hilarious! Hahaha, I literally LOL'ed. I like your take on my sadist and masochistic characteristics, and I found your poll quite amusing. You saw right through me, apparently. That was quite a fun evening, I had no problem at all being your IT bitch.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that you deserve some major props for yet again creating an amusing and well-written post! If I ever do create a post I am not sure that I will be able to reach the same level of wit.
And of course: congrats on the approaching end of your volunteer project, you rock! :-)
Jenny, yup, you make a fabulous IT bitch for sure! LOL! I had a great time with you and was still chuckling to myself all the way home. I want to hang out more!
